The second time we went to Antelope Island for an engagement shoot, I was much more prepared (i.e. I remembered to tell the couple to bring an extra pair of shoes). This time, our adventure started on the causeway to Antelope Island as we passed a rock formation leading into the Salt Lake that would be perfect for pictures. As it turns out, it was a little more adventurous than I expected for an engagement photo scene – jumping three-foot gaps over rusted-through pipes, balancing on rocks trying not to step in the shallow water, and, or course, the horde of little black bugs that swarmed away with every step we took. Luckily, these bugs did not bite, and once we got away from areas close to the water, there were no bugs at all! It’s amazing what difference two weeks can make. For this shoot, we ended up going by the visitor’s center, around which is preserved original buildings and shops from the time the island was inhabited. These placed provided some great backgrounds, but the extra drive took time and made us rush to catch the sunset. On the road, we had to drive through a giant herd of buffalo to get to the peak for the sunset shots. This time, the sunset was a deep pink, and the reflections in the water were beautiful. Check out more photos from the shoot on my portfolio site.
